Art makes me happy. Whether viewing exhibits at a museum, learning about local artists and their work, or creating art myself, I feel stimulated and challenged by the creative process. During my career as an elementary school teacher, my involvement with art was through my students, encouraging them and teaching them about different mediums, techniques and styles. Since retiring, I have been able to take more classes and focus on my own work. I primarily enjoy working with watercolors or oils and have recently started incorporating paper collage in my paintings. I hand paint my papers and use them to bring layers of color and texture to each piece. I am inspired by our many local artists and learn from them constantly. Animals are my favorite subjects because of their unique expressions and dynamic postures.
