David Mattson is a local artist in Murphys. David has been oil painting since he was eleven years old when he received his first paint by numbers kit from his parents. David won awards in high school and at Arizona State University where he graduated with a B.A. in Art and Education, as well as Best of Show and People’s Choice Award at this year’s Calaveras County Fair. David has displayed work in various venues and galleries and has taught painting classes. His paintings have found their way into private collections throughout the country. Over the years David has developed into a palette knife painter and has fallen in love with the texture and pure color the palette knife offers on the canvas.
