Arts Council Gallery temporarily Closed
The California State Public Health Officer and Director of the California Department of Public Health is ordering all individuals living in the State of California to stay home or at their place of residence, except as needed to maintain continuity of operation of the federal critical infrastructure sectors.
Until the Stay-at-Home order is lifted, and we can figure out how to open safely for staff and visitors, the Arts Council gallery will be closed. But we are continually updating our social media with arts related information. Find us there!

Help bring art to Students!
The Calaveras County Arts Council has a mission to support arts in our public schools. Last year our fundraising event Ride & Walk 4 Art raised nearly $6,000; all of the money is earmarked for arts in our public schools.
Sadly, this year we had to cancel Ride & Walk 4 Art due to the Covid-19 emergency. Happily, most of you said, "keep our registration money!" We thank you for your generosity.
But we have fallen far short of our goal of matching last year's contributions. And this upcoming year, our kids will need the arts more than ever as they return to school and try to navigate this new world we live in.
Your contributions help pay for many things: art supplies for classes, visiting artists, school theater projects, art days at elementary schools.
But most importantly, your contributions help kids make sense of their lives as they learn critical real world skills like creative thinking, resilience, problem solving, and project management. Studies show that children with access to the arts fare better in school and life.
You can give the gift of art to a child. Please donate on Giving Tuesday, or any other day. We thank you for your generosity.

Art Resources for students of the arts
The arts—visual, music, theater, storytelling, crafts, writing, dance—can help us all navigate this difficult time. Online resources are growing for homeschooling, mental health activities, and for communicating with others.
The Calaveras County Arts Council will continually update a list of these resources during the Covid 19 quarantine.
Keep us posted on social media of your creations by using the hashtag #calaverascreates so we can find and share your work!

2020 Music in the Parks-CanceledA Year of Silence for Music in the Parks
For the first time in nearly 30 years, the Calaveras County Arts Council’s free summer concert series will fall silent this year. Given the current global health crisis, the council’s board of directors regretfully and unanimously voted to cancel the 2020 Music in the Parks. According to Kathy Mazzaferro, executive director, there were no clear options to insure proper distancing for audience members as well as musicians. “It was such a sad and difficult choice,” she said “but the board and I believe it best for the health and safety of all.” Staff is working on creating an online concert series with local musicians to entertain those sheltering at home. They will announce their progress on their website (www.calaverasarts.org), by email, and on social media. The Arts Council is looking forward to resuming their popular outdoor concerts next year, beginning on June 16, 2021. According to Mazzaferro, “we have optimistically offered each of the bands the exact same contract for next summer, 2021. We are pleased to say they have all accepted.” |
